False Promotion Advisory

The Coca-Cola Company has learned of several text messages in circulation in which:

  1. The message falsely claims that the recipient has been randomly selected for a Coca-Cola Mobile Jackpot Promotion with a prize of $500,000. In this message, recipients are asked to visit http://www.cokeprizes.com,
    or
  2. The message gives the recipient a jackpot number and asks him/her to visit the website http://www.cocacolaplc.net.ms/.

The Coca-Cola Company is in no way associated with these text messages. We are not a sponsor and our name and trademarks are used here without permission.

The text messages appear to be a form of fraud known as "phishing", wherein perpetrators attempt to develop relationships with victims in order to obtain personal and financial information. Common signs that a message may be a part of a scam or phishing campaign include:

  • Spelling and grammatical errors in the text message;
  • Improper use of company trademarks;
  • Sender's use of free, non-corporate email accounts (such as Yahoo!, AOL and Hotmail);
  • Requests for personal information and the promise of quick financial gain.

Overall, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. If you have not taken part in any Coca-Cola promotions, this is your first tip-off that this is a hoax. Do not reply to these text messages with any information.

If you have already responded to the text message, we recommend that you immediately discontinue all communications with the source of the text message and contact the authorities for advice on how to proceed to protect your personal information and privacy.
